Welcoming a new puppy into your family is an exciting time, but it can also bring up many questions and concerns (especially for first time dog owners). At Essex Animal Hospital, we are here to provide your new puppy with everything he or she needs to grow up healthy and strong.
A puppy’s immune system is still in development which makes them more vulnerable to illness. This is why it’s important to for your puppy to have their first wellness exam as soon as possible. During your first visit with us, we will perform a comprehensive physical examination to look for any underlying or potential health issues. Our veterinarians will also create a vaccination schedule that is best for your puppy during their first few months of life.
During the exam, we will also examine your pet for internal and external parasites and perform deworming if necessary. Your puppy’s wellness exam is also the perfect time to address any questions you may have regarding caring for your pet such as diet and exercise, behavior issues, house training, or vaccinations. We will also discuss the importance of microchipping your new puppy to ensure that they return home safely if they are ever lost. Visit our microchipping page to learn more.
