History
Animal Chiropractic has been practiced for about 100 years. In the early 1900s Dr. Palmer, the developer of chiropractic, adjusted horses as well as humans. Animal adjusting by chiropractors fell out of favour in the 1930s.
Dr. Sharon Willoughby is credited with the revival of animal chiropractic. She is a veterinarian and a doctor of chiropractic. She developed techniques for safe and effective adjustment of animals and all the work in the last 40 years on animal chiropractic is built on her foundation. Treatment
Chiropractic treatment focuses on the role of the spinal column in biomechanics and movement and the intimate relationship between the spinal column and the nervous system. Chiropractic addresses primarily musculo-skeletal problems in animals such as intervertebral disc disease, muscle spasms, arthritis, degenerative joint disease and back pain. Many geriatric dogs benefit from regular chiropractic care for pain relief and improved quality of life. |
