Cathy – Manager
Cathy is the manager here at Essex Animal Hospital and holds a degree in Business Administration from the University of Windsor. Cathy is thankful to be part of a talented team nof doctors, technicians and staff and loves to hear feedback from clients expressing that our staff have made a difference in their lives and the quality of life for the pets they love, as well as seeing the joy on a client’s face when their dog walks again or is given a second chance at life, inspires and motivates her each day to continue to provide both excellent patient care and customer service.
In her free time, Cathy enjoys keeping active by going to gym. Her interests also include music, gardening, reading and playing games on her iPad. Cathy has a 7 year old cat, Kitty (aka Little Miss Diva), who thinks she’s a human.
Jodi – Facilitator
Jodi is Essex Animal Hospital’s facilitator. As a facilitator, you may find Jodi—on any given day—doing computer work, answering phones and greeting clients, or assisting the office in other capacities throughout the animal hospital. Jodi has over 29 years of experience in the field, and still enjoys being part of a team that make magic happen each and every day!
“These little miracles inspire me”, says Jodi. “I have seen paralyzed dogs walk again by using acupuncture; I have seen ill cats get cured by using Holistic medicine.”
In her spare time, Jodi enjoys photography and riding adventures with her husband, Don, on their motorcycles, and cherishes the time she spends with her 2 granddaughters.
Shelly – Animal Care Aide
Shelly is an Animal Care Aide at Essex Animal Hospital. With over 25 years of experience, Shelly has been in the animal care field since 1987, and continues to strive towards improving her skills and education each and every year, always seeking out the newest research and information available.
“What I am most excited about is the daily challenges that Essex has to offer, and the many great outcomes that come from our rehab center,” says Shelly.
Shelly and her family share their home in Essex with two furry friends, Skeeter and Paws. When she’s not at the animal hospital, Shelly enjoys keeping an active lifestyle by playing all sports and horseback riding.
Denise – Animal Health Technician
Denise is an animal health technician as well as a puppy socialization and obedience teacher. She has been with Essex Animal Hospital since 1999, and loves being in the position to help make life easier for animals and their owners.
Denise is married with four children and one granddaughter, and enjoys spending time with her family, reading, and learning about self-improvement. Her family has three fur children: a 15 year old Cockapoo named Flirt and two cats, Marilyn and Mimi.
Nicole – Veterinary Technician
Nicole is a veterinary technician and a graduate of St. Clair College Veterinary Technician Program. She most enjoys the opportunity to provide compassionate, excellent care to pets that come into our hospital, whether it’s a routine visit or a medical concern. She is passionate about continuing education in her field and is always eager to learn.
She lives with her husband and her black lab Gunner and her son Mason.
Jessy – Registered Veterinary Technician / Licensed Veterinary Technician
Jessy is a Registered Veterinary Technician at Essex Animal Hospital. Jessy holds a BSc from the University of Windsor (’09) and a VT from WCCCD Wayne State (’12) as well as a CCRA (Certified physical rehab technician) from Canine Rehabilitation Institute (CRI) Florida (’17). She loves the fact that her job allows her to witness an animal in all stages of their life, and the satisfaction derived in helping them to achieve a better quality of life.
As hobbies, Jessy enjoys reading all about new scientific findings in both the human and animal world. She especially has a passion for rehab and new developments in the veterinary field.
Jessy shares her home with six pets: four cats (Simba, Karma, WiFi, and Router) and two dogs (Max and Murphy).
Melanie – Registered Veterinary Technician
Melanie started her career in 1988 as a veterinary assistant and graduated from the St. Clair College Veterinary Technician program in 1993.
Her strong commitment to client education and their pets best wellbeing drives her to be an active nutritional advocate against pet obesity, dental disease and preventative practices.
Being part of the Essex Animal Hospital family allows her to further her education on an alternative practise to traditional medicine with acupuncture, laser and aqua therapies, and herbal supplements.
While relaxing she enjoys crocheting, fishing, and taking her lab mix Clifford to the beach — he hates the bathtub!
Vikki – Veterinary Assistant
Vikki is a Veterinary Assistant and has been with Essex Animal Hospital since October, 2014. She has been working in the veterinary field since 2009.”
Vikki is pictured here with her greyhound, Jimmy, and she is actively involved in a local greyhound rescue. What interests her the most is the holistic medicine we offer and the ability to continue learning through a career with Essex Animal Hospital.
Jane – Kennel Supervisor
Jane came to Essex Animal Hospital as a volunteer. But after seeing the passion and love that she had towards animals, she was offered a position as the animal hospital’s Kennel Supervisor. “I love the interaction with animals,” says Jane. “It is very rewarding to be able to work and help with the wellbeing of family pets.”
When Jane is not working at the animal hospital, you can find her gardening, roller blading, and bird watching. Jane also participates in body building, and enjoys nature walks, dog walking, as well as cooking and baking.
Jane shares her home with her Yorkie Oliver. Before her lovable fur ball, Jane was a mother to a much loved English Setter she had until it turned 14 years old. From the age of 9 to 14, the pup had to use a k-9 cart due to a leg paralysis.
Gayle – Kennel Assistant
Gayle has been an employee of Essex Animal Hospital since 1990. On a typical day you may find Gayle answering phones, assisting our veterinarians and technicians, walking dogs, cleaning, restocking or cuddling one of our boarders.
Gayle is passionate about animal rights and pet over population and devotes much of her time and resources to worthy animal causes and stray animals.
Deanne – Kennel Assistant
As a child, Dee always seemed to have unusual pets; chameleons, lizards, degus, quails, skunks and even a raccoon. Dee has always had a great love and respect for animals and has rescued more than 52 cats over the years!
Dee is inspired working at Essex Animal Hospital, witnessing a beloved pet improve with every visit; some being able to use their legs again after therapy treatment like acupuncture, or underwater treadmill.
Dee studied Medical Terminology at St. Clair College.
She has always been an animal and nature enthusiast. At home on her acre of land she enjoys gardening and surrounding herself with beautiful landscapes. She shares her home with her husband Terry, her sons Richard and David, and her daughter Ashley (who also works at the Essex Animal Hospital). They currently have two indoor rescue cats, Patchette and Trunk, and two outdoor rescue cats Oreo and Spooky.
Sarah – Receptionist
Sarah started out as a volunteer in 2016 and was quickly offered a job and became a team member in 2017. She has dreamed of becoming a veterinarian ever since she was little. She is currently enrolled in her fourth year of biology at the University of Windsor. She is passionate about animals and veterinary medicine and feels fortunate to work in an environment where she can advance her skills with hands on experience.
You will find Sarah greeting clients at reception, answering phones and making clients feel comfortable during their visit at the Hospital. When Sarah is not studying or working at the Hospital, she enjoys spending time with her rottweiler, Pax and her yorkipoo, Harley, as well as her family and her friends. She also to play soccer and going for runs.
Jenna – Receptionist
Jenna started at Essex Animal Hospital as a volunteer during the summer of 2016. After graduating from the University of Guelph with a degree in Bachelor of Science, Animal Biology, Jenna was hired as a receptionist here at Essex Animal Hospital.
She has always had a love and passion for animals, and throughout her time at University, it has only grown stronger. Jenna hopes to pursue a career in Veterinary Medicine and her goal is to attend the Ontario Veterinary College in Guelph. Jenna enjoys going to work each day and seeing the lives of pets improve through the rehabilitation services we provide. She believes that her experience at Essex Animal Hospital will strengthen her knowledge regarding veterinary medicine and help her succeed in her future. She is extremely passionate about animal rights and hopes to carry this on in her future career.
Outside of work, Jenna enjoys hanging out with her friends, going to the gym, spending time with her family, and going on nature hikes. She lives with her parents, brother and her 3 year old boxer mix, Nahla.
